Benefits Assistance

While serving our country, veterans earned benefits for themselves, their dependents and their survivors, including educational, home loan, compensation and pension benefits, as well as physical and psychological health support. As veterans we know that obtaining these benefits can be a complex and discouraging process. To ease the process of navigating the bureaucracy, Post 518 has developed an outreach staffed by veterans to help veterans and their families:

  • Understand their Earned Benefits
  • Learn how to File Claims
  • Enroll for VA Healthcare
  • Obtain Mental Health Services including identification and treatment of PTSD
  • Learn about Family and Survivor Benefits

If you are, or know of, a Veteran or a Veteran’s family in need of help in accessing benefits, please pass this information to them. Encourage them to contact the volunteers at Post 518 to help them receive what they earned in defending our freedom.

The lead volunteers on our veterans outreach are American Legion Service Officer, Tom Maus. Tom is a veteran who provides assistance to veterans and their families in completing benefits applications, and in directing them to the appropriate channels for additional assistance.
